IHOR SHCHERBAKOV was born in 1955 in Dnipropetrovs’k. He graduated from P. I. Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine in the composition class of Professor V.D. Kyrejko's (1979). As a composer he works in symphonic, theatrical, chamber, instrumental, vocal, choral genres, as well as children's music. His compositions have been performed throughout Ukraine, as well as in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, France, Canada, Italy, Slovakia, the USA, Hungary, Belarus, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

Shcherbakov is a Professor of Music at the Ukrainian National Academy of Music, President of Kyiv Composers’ Union (1999-2010), and Chairman of National Composers' Union of Ukraine (since 2010). He was awarded the T.G. Shevchenko National Award for his significant creative contributions to modern Ukrainian musical culture (1999).
