IRYNA KLYMENKO is an ethnomusicologist (PhD in art history) and ethnosong singer (including with the groups Drevo, Wholesalers). She is the author of the monographs Discography of Ukrainian ethnomusic (authentic performance), 1908–2010: Illustrated chronological register from annotations and indexes (Kyiv, 2010) and Ritual melodies of Ukrainians in context of the Slavic-Baltic early traditional melody: typology and geography (Kyiv, 2020, in 2 volumes with an atlas of melogeographic maps). She has also written more than 50 scientific articles on ethnomusicology.
She is the scientific adviser to the Laboratory of Ethnomusicology of the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, as well as a professor of the history of Ukrainian music and music folklore. She has produced 14 albums of authentic Ukrainian rural music. As part of the groups Drevo, Volodar, and Gurtopravtsi, she has performed on several recordings representing reconstructions of Ukrainian village songs. As a singer she participated in international projects Dyakouyou (Drevo & Baron Somedy), RedCardel, Yurodny ensemble, Alla Zahaykevych’s Electroacoustic Ensemble.
