IVAN NEBESNYY was born in 1971 in Ternopil, Ukraine. He was a member of Myroslav Skoryk’s composition studio at the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy (Ukraine), where he received his post-graduate degree in 1998. In 1997 he won a Kulturkontakt Austria scholarship to participate in the Fifth International Academy for New Composition, where he trained with Boguslav Schaeffer (Poland-Austria) in Composition and with Marek Choloniewski (Poland) in electronic music. Nebesnyy has won numerous prizes including the Composers’ Competition at International Youth Music Forum (1996), the Levko Revutsky National Prize (2002), the Mykhailo Verykivsky National Prize (2011), and the Theatrical Prize ”Kyiv Pectoral” (2011). His works have been performed in more than 22 countries around the world.
Nebesnyy is the founder and artistic director of the contemporary music ensemble CLUSTER. From 2006 to2011, Nebesnyy served as executive director of the “Kyiv Music Fest”, an annual international contemporary music festival. As a member of a new generation of Ukrainian composers, Nebesnyy aims to compensate for the isolation of his predecessors by applying the experience of European post-avant garde composers to his works. His main specialization is music for symphony orchestra, chamber music, music for theatre, film soundtracks, multimedia projects.
