MADISON GREENSTONE is a clarinetist and creative musician currently based in New York City.
She has performed as a featured artist of the Darmstadt Ferienkurse für Neue Musik and as part of the Lucerne Festival Academy. Notable performances have been as a soloist presented by ISSUE Project Room, as part of the Merce Cunningham Centennial Night of 100 Solos in Los Angeles, in recital at the Vigeland Mausoleum (Oslo), at Silo City with T.J. Borden (Buffalo NY) and at the Fondation Abbaye Royaumont. As a recitalist and chamber musician Madison has performed in Valencia (Spain), Berlin (Studio 8; St. Petersburg Art Space), Helsinki, NYC, San Francisco, Graz (AT) among others. As an orchestral musician Madison has performed in the KKL Luzern and the Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), as well as with members of the San Diego Symphony. Madison is the clarinetist of TAK Ensemble, a founding member of the [Switch~ Ensemble], and can be heard on Wandelweiser Editions, Another Timbre and TAK Editions Podcast.
Madison develops collaborative work and explores brend-based awareness in Hermetic Art Party with Anthony Vine (electric guitar and electronics) and Katy Gilmore (projections). She has worked closely on creative projects involving low-clarinets with Michelle Lou. Further ongoing collaborations are with Timothy McCormack, John McCowen, and DAD (T.J. Borden and Michael Matsuno).
Madison is currently a doctoral candidate at UC San Diego, where she learns greatly from the mentorship of Anthony Burr and Charles Curtis. She holds a Bachelor's degree from the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Kenneth Grant and John Manasse. She lived in Cologne (DE) from 2014-15 where she taught English at the Universität zu Köln, with support from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. Since 2012 Madison has pursued periodic studies with Ernesto Molinari.
