The NYU CONTEMPORARY MUSIC ENSEMBLE stands as a testament to the vibrant and dynamic world of contemporary music, bringing together a talented group of musicians under the direction of Jonathan Haas since its formation in 2011. With an instrumentation of Pierrot and percussion, NYUCME is dedicated to the exploration and performance of new and relevant works by contemporary composers. The ensemble's repertoire boasts compositions from influential composers like Iannis Xenakis, Pierre Boulez, Jacob Druckman, Philip Glass, Andy Akiho, and Julia Wolfe, showcasing a diverse range of styles and approaches within the contemporary music landscape. The ensemble is dedicated to fostering the development of emerging talents. Having premiered over 100 new works by NYU composers, the ensemble serves as a platform for the experimentation and innovation of up-and-coming composers. This collaboration not only contributes to the rich tapestry of contemporary music but highlights the ensemble's dedication to nurturing and promoting the next generation of creative voices. 

The NYUCME has made multiple appearances at the Bang On A Can Marathon, and made their National Sawdust debut in 2016. They maintains the highest standards of excellence and sustain a rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule - the top NYU students are selected, based on audition, for participation in the ensemble. The ensemble's commitment to precision, innovation, and artistic expression ensures each performance is a captivating and thought-provoking experience for both the musicians and their audience.
