In the 2023-24 season, bass-baritone HANS TASHJIAN had a notable presence on the operatic stage, joining Opera Essentia as the title role in Handel’s Imeneo and Hercules in Admeto. He also appeared as Callistene in Donizetti’s Poliuto with Teatro Nuovo and as le Fauteuil and L’Arbre in L’enfant et les sortilèges with Salt Marsh Opera. In concert, Tashjian premiered John Sichel’s song cycle Paradoxides and performed Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Connecticut Choral Society. He also appeared with the Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival in excerpts from Sylvestrov’s Quiet Songs and returned to American Opera Projects for the First Glimpse concert, part of the Composers & the Voice program, where he serves as a singer-in-residence. Other recent engagements include a debut with Heartbeat Opera in Slaylem. His 2024-25 performances include two premieres: Schiele in Prison and State of the Jews with American Opera Projects, Handel’s Radamisto with Opera Essentia, and a solo recital featuring Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death.

Recent highlights include the Metropolitan Opera for Don Carlo, Hamlet, and Rigoletto, Méphistophélès in Faust with Opera Baltimore, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Teatro Nuovo, and Billy in the world premiere of The Snowy Day at Houston Grand Opera.
